A scar is a local accumulation of collagen, created as part of a wound closure by the body.  If blood vessels are damaged in that region, collagenase, which should break up the scar, may not reach that region, causing the scar not to be dissipated.

 

Scars are best treated 6-9 months following their formation. Foillowing 2 years, it may be too late.
